Barbara Steele

With over 12 years of legal recruiting experience in the Washington, DC region, Barb Steele plays an important role in supporting all of the Garrison & Sisson's divisions. Barb is a well-regarded advisor on the Washington, DC legal market and has forged strong, trusting relationships within the legal community.

Throughout her career, Barb has worked on associate-level, partner-level, and in-house searches and has placed numerous attorneys in firm and non-firm positions. Her approach to legal recruiting involves developing an in-depth understanding of a candidate's key motivations and interests, which are critical to a successful search process. According to Barb, "Every attorney I encounter has a different story to tell and a unique career path, and matching attorneys with appropriate opportunities is what I find most rewarding."

Prior to entering the legal recruiting arena, Barb worked at Hogan & Hartson (now Hogan Lovells) for nearly a decade. While there, she had the opportunity to work directly with the Managing Partner and Executive Committee on the firm's business development efforts. She participated in practice group strategic development meetings, assisted with the development of the firm's promotional materials, organized partner retreats and client seminars, and worked closely with lateral partners on their early business development efforts. Through these efforts she developed a foundation in the business-side of law firms which has provided an important back drop in her recruiting career.

Barb is originally from Colorado and attended the University of Colorado. She lives in Vienna, Virginia with her husband, an attorney, their two children and a coton de tulear.
