Attorneys: In-House Counsel

G&S is experienced in assisting corporate counsels (from general counsels to staff counsel level) in evaluating career opportunities. We frequently receive inquiries from in-house counsel desirous of knowing what the market is like, as that individual is somewhat removed from the world beyond his or her company. All too often, it is difficult for an in-house lawyer to obtain information against which to compare growth opportunities within and between departments, compensation packages and roles and functions. G&S can provide in-house attorneys with an analysis similar to that which their peers in private firms undertake in order to evaluate career standing and development.

We do this by providing assistance and structure to a discussion about the objective(s) the attorney seeks to achieve: a move to a more senior position, a more specialized practice, or a redirection to assume a purely business role. Although our expertise lies in the Washington metropolitan area, G&S maintains contacts with affiliated recruiters in other parts of the country who provide access to corporate opportunities outside of this region. From time to time, we are engaged to undertake searches in other geographic communities based on a Washington/regulatory specific skill set that is required or a search that results from a personal relationship we have established with a corporation outside of Washington. We are suitably humbled to say that the majority of new in-house client relationships are forged through referrals and endorsements of individuals attorneys who know G&S and who are now working at a corporate entity not previously a G&S client.

While it is a less frequent request, we are presented with inquiries from attorneys practicing in a corporate environment who seek to return to a law firm. Depending on the individual's practice expertise, G&S has been very successful in assisting these individuals.
